“AveTiger: Exactly well said. If only Hull's big hitters had gone for a Honorary Fellowship or a Doctorate in some obscure but appropriate discipline to reflect Prescott's talents and achievments (says he laughing out loud). Then I feel sure many of us would not have got on our soapboxes.
But science and economics and Prescott all in the same breath? PLEASE do us all a favour!
SiberianRed: My ONLY personal crusade is to sell up and relocate well away from this politically, parochially and overly divisive and unsophisticated backwater. As soon as it is feasible to do so?!
That will be when the likes of Siemens finally decide to get their fingers out!!? And trust us, here's HOPING AND PRAYING for all our future prospects! ;-)”

“As someone who spent six years of their life working towards a PhD, I find honorary degrees slightly insulting to the graduates who actually devoted time, effort and money to achieve their status as graduates. What has John Prescott actually done to deserve this degree? A PhD at that!
Let's not forget that it was a Labour government who introduced higher education fees in the first place, although the beginning of the end of free higher education was the introduction of student loans in the 1990s (under a Tory government).
At least if I want to use the title 'Doctor' I am satisfied in the knowledge I actually did something to deserve the title. Can Prescott say the same?”

“SiberianRed:
Oh trust me, I've never doubted that Hull deserved Prescott or that Prescott deserved Hull.
Alongwith the rest of his other devious but dimwitted, blinkered sycophantic Liebour minders, cronies and hangers on, that Humberside seemingly has more than its fair share of!?
It is to the wider Humberside's eternal shame that for all his track record of lamentable incompetence and standards of conduct as a MP and Government Minister; Prescott was so widely endorsed and came within a whisker of being rewarded with the Police and Crime Commissioner position and almost £300K in salary. And no doubt a few more mock Tudor beams and toilet seats thrown into the trough with the rest of the perks!!
And on the same day that Hull and its University were seen to honour this buffoon; Hull and Humberside have been on their bended knees trying to sell itself and win over Siemens!!
No offence, I genuinely and sincerely hope that I am wrong. But for this and many more self evident reasons and factors. Dream on!!”

“Perhaps he should have been offered a Phd from a University on Galafray. That way he could go back in time and undo the economic mess both he and his mates created!”

“Seems more than just the long johns twisted eh Kirstyandphil? Im not sticking up for Prescott, Im also not blaming every policy failure since man invented the wheel on him either (Westland Helicopters, National Coal Industry, BAE, The Cod War ???). As an educated man as you say are you will understand that policy or policies from one government can never be abolished as soon as the next takes its place. Of course every government has, does and will make errors or we wouldn't have the need for elections would we? What I am saying is we deserve what we get if we vote for it! I suppose John Hurt deserved a degree for being a nice guy and a great actor? Up the Reds!”
