Village needs a litter picker, not a hall we can't afford
I WOULD like to reply to the Great Coates village clerk's comments on the increase in precept for the Village Hall, (November 6), unlike Healing, Great Coates has an industrial estate on the edge of it, Woad Lane and Station Road in the village are one of the main routes into it.
A lot of the rubbish including hair nets, earplugs, plastic gloves, and drink canisters, find themselves in the village, (a sad sign of the times).
If ever a village needs a litter picker it's this one, so when the clerk thinks it's a good idea to get rid of the litter pickers so that we can keep the precept down on the cost of an unwanted hall, the hall where we are told, due to cost, we shall have to cut down on events, the hall that is 600 yards away from the Bishop King Centre, which I understand is struggling due to lack of support, I do wonder if the clerk is really in touch with the village.
Mike Stewart, Woad Lane, Great Coates.

“Oh dear!!!
Point one
Never did the clerk say that "she"(or anyone else) was going to get rid of the litter picker.
Point two
Again, never said she was going to cut down on events in the hall to pay for it.
Point three
Bishop King centre is not 600 yards away. It doesnt matter how far it is, at my age(or at any age to be honest) I do not want to be walking throught the dark cut through to get to that old jaded building.
Move with the times, accept progress and stop twisting people's words and claiming them as fact!! In the paper (which i bothered to read properly) it actually stated that the clerk said worse case, they dont have to pay anything if it comes to it by cutting back on other things. You cant have it every way, there isnt a limitless supply of funding, Sir. If you dont want to pay a precept then other things have to go. Thats the way of life!”
