RESIDENTS are fighting plans to stage a major music festival in an East Riding village.

Organisers want to hold the Tribfest event at Beverley Polo Club in Tickton.

Complaints about noise has led to the concert being relocated from Driffield Showground, where it has been staged in previous years.

But the move has sparked a petition by people in Tickton, who are concerned about the impact the tribute event will have on the village.

The three-day festival, from August 21 to 23, will coincide with the polo club's Nations Cup international tournament, with around 10,000 people expected to head to the venue.

Residents in the village say they are worried about noise and additional traffic.

Tony Froggatt, who started the Tribfest petition, which is being presented to East Riding Council, said: "One of my biggest concerns about the festival is the traffic, which would have to enter the polo club off the very busy A1035.

"When there's a polo match on there are traffic problems, so just think what it would be like if there were thousands more people needing to enter the polo club."

However, organisers of Tribfest have told the Mail by the time of the festival there will be four different ways of getting in and out of the ground to help traffic flow – two of which are not off the A1035.

Event organiser Eddy Faulkner said: "We're not building a nuclear power station. We are just trying to put on a fun family event and would ask for residents to hear us out and give the festival a chance.

"Although sound is an issue we have had environmental services down to have a look and they are okay with it.

"A more major issue is traffic management and we need to reduce the speed of traffic during the event. But we have spoken to parish councillors and will work with them."

A decision about the Tribfest licence should be made by February.

“Firstly, get the facts right, as always with those that want to complain there is a large amount of exaggeration. To the best of my knowledge there has in the last 2 years been 2000 - 3000 people attending this event, (many of which are young children with their parents and therefore not driving their own vehicles), nothing like the mentioned 10000. I have attended this event for the past 2 years with a group of friends, ages between 25 - 55, from all over the country. The atmosphere is fun and friendly and much of the music reminiscent of that which I heard as a teenager during the street parties and events surrounding the Queens silver jubilee and Charles and Diana's wedding. What could be more community orientated? Incidentally, I have purchased additional tickets this year, hoping to take my own son and daughter, knowing that they would also enjoy the atmosphere.”

“I think it's sad that people complain about an event which goes on for only a few days of the year when they can have all of the other days to themselves. Maybe if they thought about what the festival does for the 1,000s of people that go there (or even bothered to get their fingers out and see it for themselves!) then they may appreciate that it is well worth sacrificing a few days of their "peace" to make way for an event that will fill the hearts and memories of thousands!

I've been involved with Glastonbudget for the past few years and can appreciate what you guys are going through. It would certainly be a shame to see a fellow festival fall because of a few grumpy people not willing to go the extra mile to let others have a few days of happiness.

I wish you all the best guys, I hope you manage to sort this out!

“i have been to tribfest for the past two years and if it wasnt for places like this i would have nothing to look forward to every year. this is genuinly the highlight of the year for me and i dont understand why people have to make such a big deal about this. if its not this then they would be complaining about something else entirely. i think they should just let us have this experience and enjoy the fest. we arent doing any one any harm by enjoying our selves. i want to know have any of these people been to any of these fests? if so why not? they should come and see for themselves what it is like before trying to ruin the fun in everyone elses live because they have nothing better to do with them selves.”

“I think these people have nothing better to do. I can't believe they are going to all the effort to gather a petition about 3 days in August - why don't they try and channel that into something worth campaigning about? I have been for the past two years - the event is well managed, hassle free and a really positive thing to be happening in the area. the council should ignore these whingers and look at what Tribfest actually does for the area, in terms of raising the profile of East Yorkshire as a diverse and progressive place. there is so much negativity in and about Hull and the surrounding areas that things like this should be encouraged.”

“I can understand why the local do gooders are up in arms, but how can they comment on something that they have never experienced. im sure at some point of there life they have ( if they have one) taken there family away to a fair, a concert, the seaside and enjoyed themselves... this event is a family event and the residents of tickton should be flattered that such an event is to be held in there community... i have attended the last 2 yrs and have enjoyed every minute of it... the tallent of the artists is unbelieveable and the atmosphere is electric for everyone. mr froggart and co wot would your comments be if it was your son or grandson who were good enough to sing live to 10,000 people.... you would be proud as punch... come on loosen up your belts and relax a little and come on and join the fun... then if it aint your cuppa tea you will know exactly wot your talking about... dont spoil the good old fashioned family fun,,, lord knows not many familys are able to benifit from this kind of family weekend... ASK SOCIAL SERVICES....”
