Ward shines in Belgium

SOUTH Cave resident Charlotte Ward won a bronze medal competing for England in an international orienteering competition.

The 17-year-old ran her way to a podium spot at the Interland International Orienteering meeting, an annual challenge match between teams from England, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and Northern France.

Competitors, aged 13 to 65, completed a technically challenging courses in an area of complex forested sand dunes at Hechtelse, in Belgium.

England secured overall victory by a narrow seven-point margin, with Ward completing her 7km women's aged 18-20 course in 55 minutes.

A member of the local orienteering club, Humberside And Lincolnshire Orienteers, and local athletic club, City of Hull AC, Ward competes regularly in orienteering, cross country and road races.

She is also a member of the East Riding talent squad.
