Overnight temperatures have fallen to minus 10 in Hornsea, Withernsea, Patrington and areas around Leconfield, causing an additional headache of black ice as people prepare to head off to work.

Road clearing crews from East Riding Council have been out three times in the past 12 hours as they battle to keep main routes free of ice.

“I cycled to work as usual today at 0500 as I heeded the warnings issued to motorists about the bad driving conditions so I left my car at home.”
