THE life of father-of-two Alexander Spence has been celebrated by several hundred people who gathered for his funeral.

Alexander, of north Hull, was found dead on Thursday, April 22, in the River Hull after a desperate 12-day search for the 30-year-old.

He went missing after going drinking with family and friends in Princes Avenue, west Hull.

His funeral took place at the Church Of Our Lady Of Lourdes and St Peter Chanel in Cottingham Road, north Hull.

Adorned in pink lilies, his coffin sat at the front of the church for the hour-long ceremony propping up pictures of him with his sons, Alexander, 4, and Sam, 20 months.

His wife Clare, 32, told the Mail: "Ever since I was told of Alex's death my world just crumbled around me, he was an amazing, kind, selfless person.

"I feel completely empty without him and can't think about the future, I am taking each day at a time but each and every minute is painful.

"I feel privileged that he chose me and am relieved to have our little boys. They are a piece of him.

"I just can't imagine the boys' birthdays or Christmas without him."

A post-mortem examination revealed Alexander's death was not suspicious.

The Mail has set up a dedicated Lasting Tribute page to Alexander. Click here to add your message of condolence.
