Wind farm plans given approval
A sixth wind farm in the East Riding has been given the go-ahead on appeal.
West Coast Energy's plans for a six turbine development at Sober Hill Far, in North Newbald, have been given approval by the Department of Communities and Local Government after the planning inspector recommended approval.
Once more, the planning inspector cited national policy on renewable energy as the main reason for recommending approval.
The decision follows a public inquiry which took place in December last year at County Hall, Beverley.
East Riding councillors had previously rejected the plans on the grounds it would harm the area of outstanding natural beauty.

“I actually think wind farms are very pretty whether they're on land or at sea. They look much better than a factory or power plant or a high block of council flats at any cost. If people want these "monstrosities" knocking down they can start with Bransholme.”

“Reduce the population and we wouldn't have to build these ugly mostrosities, nor build as many power stations.
Anyway it will soon be 2012 - end of the Mayan Calendar - game over, and on to the next phase in Human evolution - the Age of Aquarius - where equality, love and peace rules, not greed, money, self, bullying, and other negative traits. And in 2012 all this "technology" will be useless.”

“By the end of May we may have a government with some commonsense. They will see the stupidity of these ridiculous subsidised eyesores. Hopefully they will pull the plug on this development.”

“Fantastic news!
It's about time both wind and wave power were extensively-used, as a truly viable alternative to coal or nuclear (shudder).
As for the complaints from locals...let's see how they'd manage without electricity (or maybe they'd like to put aside an area for nuclear waste disposal, as opposed to a set of wind turbines?!)”
