A wind farm would have a bad effect on one of East Yorkshire's most historic buildings, it has been claimed.

Cherished views of Howden Minster would be affected by the Sixpenny Wood scheme, between Gilberdyke and the town.

The warnings were made a public inquiry into the proposed £25m 10-turbine development at Howden.

Developer Your Energy wants to build the wind farm on land south of West Linton Farm in Brow Lane, Balkholme.

The company is appealing against East Riding Council's refusal to grant planning permission for the turbines. The authority rejected the application in December 2008. Today council officers argued that views of the Minster would be ruined if the plan went ahead.

The inquiry began today and is expected to last eight days.

It is taking place at the Goole Town Council chamber in Church Street.

“For heavens sake steve, nobody is saying the climate has not changed in the past. What they are saying now is that it is happening much faster than before and there is significant evidence that it is mans fault.

These facts you keep referring to are stuff you have read in a book. You decide to believe one set of scientists but not another?

Please do show me this report you are talking about.”

“Ernesto, Hull Can you show a report that say any definite proof all they say is possible, could, worse case, might, but not one report says what WILL happen why because they don't know. The climate has been changing for millions of years and will continue to do so regardless what they tell you and how much they tax you remember we were heading of an ice age in the 70s its all about controlling the sheep if your fine been one of the sheep keep believing what they are telling you or start looking at the facts it has been a lot warmer here in the past than it is now in the past the north sea was dry land.”

“Well Steve, if you would just like to show me the scientific research you have done which proves or, at the very least, sways largely in the direction of your "climate change not happening" argument then I would be happy to agree with you.

    Err, thought not.....

Likewise Charles, evidence please. No? Well stop being silly little boys then.”

“I see all those comments in favour of these ridiculous machines come from Hull. Some even admit their ignorance of the area as if that was something to be proud of.
I suspect some are actually from the windfarm company. Now that would be naughty.

There is a fear being sent about that the world is going to be damaged unless some kind of action is taken.
This is a massive confidence trick by the energy companies. They wish to pass on to you, the consumer, the cost of producing energy more efficiently.
You do not have to pay this cost.
A company gets its capital from from its shareholders. They must bear the cost of this investment. Let them take take the risk. No doubt they will take( are taking) the profit.

There is no reason why energy companies should get subsidies for wind power projects. If they were economical then the company would jump in with alacrity. If not they go running to your government for a handout.
    Go figure ...”

“Well if they knock down the churches, what are unneeded anyways as we live in a secular society, thus making space for windfarms to be built on the land where the churches once stood.”

Are these people for real? Grrr!”
