Police have named the woman who died following an accident on the A63, Garrison Road, Hull, at the junction with Great Union Street, this morning.

Susan Russell, 54, of the Abbey Street area of east Hull, died at the scene.

It is understood she was struck by a container which fell from a truck at the roundabout junction, close to Victoria Dock at about 7.30am.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the lorry and its trailer prior to the accident or the incident itself.

Officers also want to track down the driver of a silver vehicle, believed to be a Ford C Max, who stopped at the scene initially.

The 46-year-old driver of the lorry has been arrested in connection with the accident and he remains in police custody.

The A63 was closed following the crash, causing major disruption around Hull city centre.

The road re-opened at 2.48pm.

Officers have thanked motorists for their patience during the road closures.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the crash can call police on 0845 6060222.
