Woman killed when masonry fell and hit her
A WOMAN was killed when a piece of masonry fell from the roof of a church in York in 2002.
She was walking along pavement in the city when part of a metre-high pinnacle fell from All Saints' Church and hit her.
Tourist Debra Exton, 45, of East Leake, Loughborough, died in hospital of her injuries.
An inquest jury returned a verdict of accidental death.

But following the death, all pinnacles were permanently removed from the church.
The inquest had heard the same pinnacle fell from the 14th-century church a decade earlier in stormy weather and was repaired.
York Coroner Donald Coverdale said: "I'm hopeful church architects, stone masons and all those involved in the care of the fabric of churches throughout the country will have taken careful note of this incident and will keep a weather eye open for any potential danger from ancient buildings."
