“@unified; although I respect your views on this, I have to agree with NeilTheasby. Any responsible dog owner who is alerted to the fact that their dog is in the middle of a road obviously is not capable of responsibility. I kept English Bull Terriers, so I know how different breeds have been (unfairly) stigmatised by society. Dogs are not 'bad', owners are. My thoughts go out to all involved in this accident. May you recover quickly.”

"Have you for one moment considered that it may have escaped, been let out by yobs, in fact anything but your first jump into the coments page."
It is the owners responsibility, they control the dog and the environment that the dog is kept in. I would like to see strays, any unattended dogs, destroyed immediately.
Hope the lady makes a good recovery, I note that you have not commented on that, human, aspect of this story do you prefer mutts to people?”

“Hope the lady recovers well but it's going to be an interesting accident report. Especially the diagram showing how the accident happened.”

“Unified - I considered all of those things before making my comment but I bow to your superior wisdom oh wise one! Your advice "Don't get any animal until you know how to treat them correctly" is sensible advice but I won't be getting any animals. Years ago Rottweilers, staffies and pitbulls were hardly ever seen on our streets. They have become "fashionable" because of their reputations. In spite of what you say there are much nicer breeds but anyway the main thing is this - an innocent woman has been badly injured because of a pet owner's irresponsibility.”

“neil theasby.
Sorry, I know you have fans to your comments, cant see why I might add, but to suggest you tether a dog is a receioe for turning any goood animal into a bad animal.
By all means keep it in an enclosed area with a run, but not tethered.
Have you for one moment considered that it may have escaped, been let out by yobs, in fact anything but your first jump into the coments page.
As for getting another dog, Rottwielers are a lovely breed. Very kind hearted, unless some one tethers them all day and makes the good into bad.
Are you sure your not mixing this breed with a pit bull. Have you ever checked on google about Rottweilers, or do you always shoot from the hip at the first reading.
My advice for you. Dont get any animal until you know how to treat them correctly”

“...And all because some idiot dog owner failed in his/her responsibilities to keep the creature tethered somewhere out of harm's way. It's no joke. The pillion passenger will have to live with the legacy of this preventable accident for the rest of her life. Why does anybody want to keep a Rottweiler anyway? They're often aggressive and there are much pleasanter dogs one could own.”
