"The show features the same high-flying, hard-hitting action and colourful characters audiences have come to expect.

"Ultimate Showdown is set to be our biggest event to date, and is guaranteed to be a great afternoon's entertainment for the whole family."

NGW is now one of the UK's largest wrestling companies, and is about to open its first dedicated wrestling school in the north of England, running training classes in Hull six days a week.

Mr Dunn said the popularity of the sport is growing in the UK.

"NGW is going from strength to strength, and we are promoting monthly events to packed-out crowds across the region," he said.

"We're committed to showcasing the biggest names in wrestling today, including former WWE, World of Sport and TNA wrestlers, alongside the UK's best up-and-coming grapplers."

Councillor Terry Geraghty, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said attracting a variety of sporting events is vital to strengthening the Hull's economy.

"It is great for the city to be able to attract a variety of events and I am delighted New Generation Wrestling has decided to return to Hull," he said.

"Sport can play a massive part in attracting visitors to the city and boosting our economy.

"The recent table tennis and darts competitions have been a great advert for Hull.

"The wrestling will be another feather in our cap.

"Minor sports are becoming more and more popular and are being increasingly seen as opportunities for families to get together."

Ultimate Showdown will feature a host of top British stars, in both singles and tag competition.

Wrestlers scheduled to appear include NGW Champion Rampage Brown, local hero "The Amazing" Matt Myers, and the ever-popular "Mexican Sensation" El Ligero.

Hull-born villain "The Showstealer" Nathan Cruz will also be in attendance, along with a hand-picked selection of the best regional grapplers.

The event will take place on Sunday, November 11, at The Sports Arena in Hull, from 5.30pm.

Tickets cost between £10 and £22 and can bought from The Sports Arena Box Office or by calling Hull Wrestling ticket line on 07525 922864.

“I do not argue it entertains some people I made the point it is NOT sport. There is certainly no audience for Greco-Roman wrestling, you got that right.”

“albaz - It's about entertainment. No-one would pay anything like that sort of money to see "REAL" wrestling like the stuff that was on the Olympics, not on a local level. People go to be entertained by people who are genuine athletes, flying off the ropes and throwing people around the ring - So what if some punches are pulled, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

    Lighten up.”

“Exoskeletion; you silly, name calling person, why is a statement of fact miserable? Presumably you are not miserable because you like non-sports that you accept as genuine contests?”

“This type of wrestling is is not a sport. This is acting daft in a ring,in a typically American all show, no substance way. If people want to pay to watch this that is their business but Terry Geraghty should not be referring to this as a "sporting event".”
