Zandra Rhodes to pitch up at car boot sale at Sledmere House
SHE IS the doyenne of Sixties fashion who has designed fabulous outfits for royalty and rock stars.
But this weekend Zandra Rhodes CBE will be selling her old belongings out of the back of her car boot in East Yorkshire.
The designer, who is famous for her punk stylings and shocking pink hair, will be one of the more colourful characters flogging their unwanted clutter at Sledmere House's annual charity car boot sale.
The event, which will be held on Sunday, is an invitation-only affair for sellers where the landed aristocracy can sell off antiques from their attics and dusty old family heirlooms dating back generations.

The 71-year-old designer is a friend of Sir Tatton Sykes, the eighth baronet and owner of the grade one-listed Georgian stately home, and asked him if she could take part in the sale, which raises money for Yorkshire Sir Ambulance.
Lady Pamela Swinton, who organises the event, said she was delighted the iconic fashion figure would be attending the sale and said early-bird browsers may even be able to pick up the odd classic piece of couture from Zandra's wardrobe.
Lady Pamela, said: "I am absolutely thrilled Zandra is gracing our charitable event with her presence. She has been a fashion icon since the 1960s and, for me, she brings a huge feeling of nostalgia for those heady days.
"I don't know exactly what Zandra will be selling, probably a fascinating mixture of things, which seems to be what most of the pitch holders have on their stalls.
"Zandra is a friend of Sir Tatton's and is staying with him for the event and I believe he initially mentioned it to her. I believe she is bringing her sister too.
"She will be standing at her stall selling her goods like everyone else, so anyone who wishes to buy something belonging to Zandra Rhodes will have the opportunity to do so.
"I feel sure she will also draw the raffle for us."
Zandra will be taking her place alongside Yorkshire's great and good at Sledmere, as well as quite a few sellers who have seats in the House of Lords.
There is always the hope of stumbling across a valuable antique – or long lost old master – at a stately home car boot sale, says Lady Pamela.
"They hold these events at stately homes across England and I think a lot of families see them as an opportunity for a clear-out of the old attic," she says.
"There's probably a lot of good stuff tucked away in those attics, but there's no point having them up there collecting dust.
"The aim is to make it something different from the usual run-of-the-mill car boot sale by having stalls – or car boots – with objects that are a little out of the ordinary.
"People with big houses in the country do clear out their attics for events like these and you can pick up some lovely old pieces of china and things like that," says Lady Pamela.
Sledmere Country House Car Boot Sale will be held on Sunday at Sledmere House in Sledmere, near Driffield. It is open to the public from 9.30am. Admission costs £3.50 for adults and is free for children under 16.
