More action needed to prevent flooding
Over the past few weeks I have read in the Mail the reports of the flooding in the East Yorkshire area.
It seems to me that Hull City Council and Yorkshire Water are just letting nature take its course and doing little to help the flooded areas.

UNDER WATER: The recent flooding in Burton Fleming.
Could the River Hull tidal barrier be used to assist in the drainage of the flooded areas?
By lowering the tidal barrier at the bottom of the low tide, stopping the in-flow of the high tide entering the River Hull thus allowing the flood water higher up the river to run off the land into the river over a longer period.

Then raising the tidal barrier after the high tide has turned, allowing the water in the River Hull to run into the River Humber and continue to do this until the flooded areas are liveable or usable?
Could someone from Hull City Council or Yorkshire Water explain why the Holderness and Barmston drains are in danger of flooding when again the run-off water goes into the River Humber?
When the tide goes out there is plenty of room for both drains to run off, all it needs is someone to raise and lower the sluice gates and keep them clear of rubbish.
Come on, let's do something to help these areas.
R Cox, Sutton Park, Hull.
