Four arrests over railway line lead theft in Driffield

Four people have been arrested after lead was stolen from a railway line in Driffield.

A 999 call was made by a member of the public at 3pm on Friday reporting men with wheelbarrows, taking lead from the railway line near Meadow Road.

As the theft was in progress, four traffic officers based at Driffield Police Station responded.

A blue Transit van was seen nearby and the driver and passenger were arrested.

PCSO Chris Webster saw two suspects running off from the scene. He chased and detained them.

Three-quarters of a tonne of railway fittings were recovered.

Four men from Driffield, aged between 16 and 21, were arrested.

The investigation has been passed to the British Transport Police.
