Hull New Theatre
In recent years, Hull New Theatre has seen the world’s best loved musical, The Sound of Music arrived direct from the London Palladium, starring Jason Donovan and Verity Rushworth, along with West End sell-outs, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Calendar Girls, Spamalot and Scrooge.
The theatre also hosts an annual Christmas pantomime, including the hit production, Aladdin, starring Chico, Dean Sullivan and Stu Francis, along with Peter Pan and Snow White. Hull New Theatre is currently preparing for its 2012 pantomime, Cinderella, which will star comedy favourites The Chuckle Brothers.
Despite facing a number of challenges throughout its long history, Hull New Theatre stands today as one of the best regional theatres in the country, continuing to showcase some of the finest musicals, comedies and performers around.
Hull City Hall
Hull City Hall has seen the likes of Jimmy Carr, John Bishop, Milton Jones, John Barrowman, The Manic Street Preachers, Joe Longthorne and Bloc Party take to the stage in recent years. The City Hall has also played host to some of the world’s most distinguished orchestras and ensembles, including the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Having hosted a number of top sporting contests, such as the Winmau World Darts Championships last year, and the recent City Hall Showdown, which featured an evening of first class professional boxing, Hull City Hall is also emerging as a popular venue for some of the country’s finest sports events.
Offering traditional elegance within the grandest of settings, Hull City Hall has also become a popular venue for a varied range of functions. With its stunning hall, and the fabulous Mortimer Suite which features a beautiful centre atrium framed by an ornate dome ceiling, Hull City Hall is the ideal place for everything from weddings and birthday parties, to science fiction fairs and bar mitzvahs.
