First baby of new year is one of a kind: Dastan born at 1am on 1/1/11
Little Dastan Jamil certainly has a claim to be the number one baby in East Yorkshire having been born at 1am on 1/1/11.
While most people spent Friday evening seeing in the New Year at pubs, clubs and parties across the region, some were bringing new life into the world at the maternity ward.
Proud mum Elizabeth Jamil was the first to give birth this year with her healthy son weighing in at 7lb 13oz.
Dastan was due to be born on Christmas Day but hung on until the new year.
He was one of 14 babies to be born on the first day of the year at the Hull and East
Yorkshire Women and Children's Hospital in Anlaby Road, west Hull.
It was a busy day for the staff on the maternity ward with the number of babies exceeding those born on Christmas Day.
And it all began with Dastan just one hour into the new year.
Mrs Jamil, 29, of Hedon, said: "It has been a great start to the new year.
"Dastan is doing really well and I'm trying to suss things out.
"My three-year-old daughter Jiane was born on Halloween so there's something about these special days.
"In fact, Dastan was actually due on Christmas Day but decided to hang on for another week.
"My husband Amanj is over-the-moon about it all but he went home to get some sleep.
"It's a very special birth date and Dastan may even have been born at one minute past one but we can't be sure on that."
Meanwhile, Melissa Swann, 24, and Carl Burr, 23, were the first couple in East Yorkshire to tie the knot in 2011.
They were married at St Giles' Church on Marfleet Lane, east Hull on New Year's Day and held the reception at the Holiday Inn on Castle Street.
Hairdresser Melissa said: "It was an absolutely fantastic day and the date is something my husband will certainly remember for future anniversaries.
"We didn't pick this time to get married because of the date.
"It was the best time to get married because Carl is in the Army and will be going to Afghanistan soon.
"We are also moving to Northern Ireland, where Carl is based, so the reception was also something of a goodbye party too.
"It has been very emotional and I haven't stopped crying."
It was also a special day for young Christopher Morley-Tyson who turned one on 1/1/11.
The youngster, who lives off Askew Avenue, west Hull, with his mum Kate and dad Andy, was never supposed to arrive in the world in January – but he was two weeks overdue.
Andy and Kate married in July 2007 and Christopher was their first baby.
The family marked Christopher's birthday with a party at their home on Saturday.

“When I was but a baby boy,
So many years ago,
I was a magnet to the girls
I set them all aglow.
They would queue up to cuddle me
Or push me in my pram.
They would kiss me through the dribble
And call me little lamb.
The wisps of hair on my bald head
Through their fingers they would twirl
And every little botty burp
Would delight each lovely girl.
When I smiled at them with toothless gums
They¿d clap their hands with glee.
They didn¿t even seem to mind
The constant smell of wee.
The chubby folds along my legs
So lovingly they¿d stroke,
At every crevice in my fat arms
A finger they would poke.
They¿d pat my back to make me burp
And wipe my runny nose,
They even thought it funny
If I ikkied on their clothes.
.
Now once again I¿m fat and bald
And flatulent as well.
My toothless smile has been restored
Together with the smell.
But do the girls all flock around
And make a fuss of me?
No they don¿t. I¿m quite amazed!
Why ever should this be?”
