It runs from 7pm to 9pm, is open to everyone and is free to attend. Centre manager Jim Harris said: "Hull has well over 20,000 students, so they are a hugely important part of the local economy.

"We want them to love every minute of their time in Hull and so the Student Takeover is our way of welcoming them to the city.

"It was a huge success last year and I hope the students will turn out in force again in 2012 to enjoy the atmosphere and grab a bargain with the one-night-only special offers we have around the centre."

The night also includes DJs from Sugar Mill and Viking FM.

“Consumerist gluttony to tweak profit margins. Another worthy, moral, character-building event. It almost reads like a charity gala to aid ailing profit margins at Next, River Island and TK Maxx.”
