All aboard the Bounce Back bus - that will be the cry in Hull's Old Town on Saturday.

City transport company East Yorkshire Motor Service (EYMS) is gearing up for its fourth annual Big Bus Day at the Streetlife Museum, on High Street.

The weekend's celebrations promise to be just the ticket for everyone from the most ardent bus fans to families looking for an inexpensive day out.

It is being rolled out alongside the city's maritime festival, meaning Hull will be jammed packed with transport heritage over the coming weekend.

Visitors to the Big Bus Day will be able to inspect a range of vintage and modern vehicles, owned and operated by EYMS and other bus companies, some dating back as far as the 1940s.

The company's memorabilia will also be on display throughout the museum and on sale at stalls around the site.

There will be free travel to and from the maritime festival on board an open top bus which will tour the city, and music will be provided by the EYMS Brass Band.

There will also be the opportunity to win some first class prizes, including free bus travel and a weekend excursion for two to London.

According to Peter Shipp, chairman of EYMS, the event attracts thousands of visitors.

It grew out of the company's 80th birthday celebrations which took place in 2006.

Mr Shipp said: "The Streetlife Museum approached us to display our heritage for our 80th birthday and it developed from there.

"It was well received and attracted nearly 3,000 people in its first year.

"It attracts a lot of bus and EYMS enthusiasts, but there is something for everyone."

Attractions on the day include Catch-a-Bus - a bus-themed version of Hook-a-Duck - face painting, a hazard perception test which drivers must complete to get their licence, and a Punch and Judy show.

Children's charity, the NSPCC, is also set to benefit from the Big Bus Day as all the proceeds raised will be donated to the cause.

EYMS' Big Bus Day will take place from 11am on Saturday.

“Good job it's on Saturday and not Sunday- otherwise hardly anyone would be able to get there due to Hull's RUBBISH Sunday bus timetable.”
