Hull College celebrates £2m Gulf deal

07:00 - 14-May-2008

Hull College has landed a multi-million pound contract to supply retail training in the Middle East.

The college, based in Queens Gardens, city centre, will deliver the training to students in Bahrain over the next three and a half years as part of a deal worth £2m.

The deal extends the college's international portfolio, which also sees it provide training in China, Angola and the Bahamas.

The Bahrain contract came about after research carried out by the college revealed the need for vocational training in the country.

Representatives from the college visited the country in January this year and negotiated the contract with Tawfeeq Al Rayyash from the Bahrain Sector Skills Council.

College executive director Jeremy Coupland described the deal as a significant step for the college.

He said: “We are now winning major international contracts because of the high quality of our teaching and learning services and the college's excellent national reputation as a provider of effective business solutions.”

Mr Al Rayyash said he had been very impressed with the college when he visited the city.

He said: “I look forward to return visits as the contract is in operation.”
