Caught on Camera needs you!

Wednesday, August 12, 2009, 06:30

A CRIME fighting initiative which has led to more than 50 offenders being brought to justice has been back in operation for 12 months.

Caught on Camera was relaunched by the Mail last August in conjunction with Humberside Police.

Every month we have featured CCTV images to help identify people officers want to speak to in connection with crimes such as theft, burglary, robbery and assault.

The campaign had previously ran successfully a number of years ago and was restarted following a fresh drive by the force to crack down on these offences as well as improvements in the quality of CCTV footage.

Detective Sergeant John Fuller, from the force's priority crime team has been leading the initiative for the past year.

He told the Mail: "We have been running the scheme for a year now and the results speak for themselves.

"But that does not mean we are being complacent.

"Every time a feature is carried in the Mail we look at how it can be done better in future to increase the detections and ultimately reduce crime in the city of Hull.

"We now have a police volunteer with specialist computer knowledge which we hope will lead to an improvement in the quality of the images contained in the paper and online."

Each image published by the Mail in print or online has a corresponding case number.
