Ken Wagstaff named Hull City's best player
Hundreds of fans visited the Mail's website to register their vote in our poll to name the greatest City player.
The poll was launched following the departure of Tigers hero Dean Windass earlier this month
Deano was second in the poll following his move to Oldham Athletic.
Mr Wagstaff said: "I'm glad the supporters remember me.
"They still say hello at games or in the pub.
"Hull has fantastic fans and I'm glad I entertained them.
"If you do your best and give it your all, the supporters will get behind you."
Waggy played for City from 1964 to 1975 and is still fondly remembered.
He polled 55 per cent of the votes, with Deano taking 16 per cent.
On hearing about his rating in the poll, Deano said: "If people like you, so be it; but if they don't, I'm not bothered.
"I've never been a big-headed person. Ian Ashbee used to take the mickey out of me, saying I wasn't a legend, and that people who fight wars are legends.
"I believe that, but legend is a different word in football and if someone wants to call me that, it's a nice way to be remembered."
Ninety-year-old Cyril Metcalf, who has been watching City for 80 years, voted for Waggy.
He said: "Waggy was a great player. He seemed to have so much time on the ball and could spot passes no one else could see."
Fans also paid tribute to Deano, who scored the goal that propelled the Tigers into the Premier League.
The Mail invited fans to e-mail their messages to Deano following news of his departure.
Seven-year-old fan Elliot Cross wrote: "I am so sorry you are leaving Hull City.
"You were an inspiration to me when I needed some encouragement, because I had just started in a team.
"You suggested I carry on trying, and that is what I have done, and I now have a place in the team."
