“Steveodore do you look at the stars in the original band aid and think you are the same age as them even though they are probably in their 20's on the video ...but then look at new acts who are in their 20's today and think they look like young kids ...i do its weird - not sure if its my perm or the shoulder pads :)”

“bt,
I'd love to see the faces of todays pop types as if stood there in my Miami Vice style suit with turned back cuffs and a ***** 'tache to finish off the look. It was very much of it's time that look I'm afraid.
I would have thought you were a bit young for the original Band-Aid.”

“I can think of only one person with whom I've had a spat recently, but on searching their posts I can find no such comment ;)... I think you best spell it out for me...whoever you are.
I hold no grudges and would hope others are the same, it's Christmas, we've all just got through the Armageddon together for goodness sake and life's good.
PARTY TIME”

“steveodore - did no one tell you? You're supposed to keep notes. Otherwise how on earth are we to keep track of who is who and who is arguing with who and which side are we on and which new user name is the one we liked?
It's all rather confusing really.
Basically there are three people having a scrap. One is a cheesy twit. One is a clever but slightly intense lady. And the other is a clever but slightly intense lady.”

“mimi
I am not going to use your new name.
I NEVER forgive anyone though what I am supposed to forgive steveodore about I don't know.
Posting that I love Marvin Gaye's version of Wherever I Lay my Hat (B side of I Heard it Through the Grapevine) is simply a comment and I have no idea what you are talking about 'non poster'.
See we are getting the usual running commentary on everyone's posts.”

“Agree UB40 ruined Red Red Wine, I have it by Jimmy James and Neil Diamond
Worst ever cover Wild Horses by some "talent show"loser called Boyle.
Originals are better in at least 90% of cases I think, even when very distinctive voices such as Dylan and Cohen are involved. Lost count of how many bad versions of Hallelujah I've heard.”

“Nothing wrong with cover versions, especially when the new artist brings a different interpretation to the song.
Loved the Byrds' covers of Dylan songs and the Beatles covered a number of artists on their early albums, such as Please Please Me, With the Beatles and Beatles for Sale. Don't know if I prefer their versions or not because I probably haven't heard most of the originals.
Talking about the Beatles. I also love the Joe Cocker version of With a Little Help From My Friends and one of my favourite cover version is You Were Always On My Mind by the Pet Shop Boys.”

“reallyyoung_g - good call on the Pet Shop Boys. It also doubles up as my favourite Xmas song. 'Fairytale of New York' was number 2 that year and the Boys have said they've heard people complaining about their song for keeping it off number 1, as if it's their fault!”

“There are some ok covers on albums, but bringing out a cover as a single and relying solely on the publicity machine to sell it is another matter.
Spirit in the Sky and I'll be watching you were butchered by adding rapping gibberish in the middle and were badly sung as well.
Screeching Burke and Houston wrecked Hallelujah I will always love you respectively. One sold due to a TV show ,the other because it was added to a Costner film. Hard to believe anyone thinks Always on my mind by The Pet Shop Boys compares to the Willie Nelson or Elvis Presley versions.
My top three covers would be Hurt-Johnny Cash. Bird on a Wire-Joe Cocker and Every grain of sand Emmylou Harris.”

"Hard to believe anyone thinks Always on my mind by The Pet Shop Boys compares to the Willie Nelson or Elvis Presley versions."
Sorry that it offends you that not everyone thinks the same way as you about music. Obviously if the Pet Shop Boys' version got to number 1 then quite a lot of people liked it and I have no idea what the Willie Nelson version sounds like as I don't like/listen to country music. Hard to believe that anyone does. ;P”

“Practically everything by an Xfactor etc. winner or often non winner can get to number one, doesn't make it good.
A good song is a good song with or without a genre label. Not offended by any opinions but can't stand rap rubbish or stuff that sells only because of the publicity the "singers" have been afforded.”

“Pop-a-doodle-doo! Noel Edmonds. Now there's a future metamorphosis if ever i needed one.
What a miserable day today. Can anyone add something to this thread to cheer us all up?
I hope the weather improves soon. It's making me just want to stay on here all the time and I know that's probably not what everyone will want.”
“Cover versions.
What is the opinion of the folk on here of cover versions of song's?
I ask because there are a couple of horrors doing the rounds at the moment, Gabrielle Aplin (?) doing her best to kill the Frankie Goes To Hollywood's classic "The Power Of Love", and something calling itself The Justice Collective singing "He Ain't Heavy".
On top of all this we have the usual garbage being released by the Cowell fodder from X factor.
What do you think?”
