“Our corner shop wasn't as inventive! I would have been first on the queue for one though.
My favourite snack was Tomato Snaps, they were a square quaver and full of chemicals, I think I was addicted to some of the chemicals. The things from my childhood I would like to try again were some biscuits called Rondello, they were huge and melt in the mouth gorgeous, there was also another biscuit that was a digestive but with a caramac coating, yum. Does anybody remember these biscuits?”

“Yes Miss-F-L I do remember those caramac biscuits but without googling I can't remember the name of 'em. Probably 'Caramac Biscuits' eh? I remember my mum always used to cut a Mars bar (also a lot bigger back in the day) into slices with a very sharp knife and it always tasted so much better. We thought it was the posh way of eating one.
What about a glass of Coke with a big dollop of cornish ice-cream in it? Wonderful, oh and those little plastic knickerbocker glories with soft chocolate and hundreds and thousands. Oh baby yeah.
Anyone thinking of trying a frozen milky way remember to put the stick in before you freeze 'em or you won't be able to get it in and you'll end up with cold fingers. This will give you a wrong all round impression of the finished product.”

“Yes you'd be spot on there Spain. I think they were 2d normal or 3d froze. Ironically 1 x new pence equals 2d or 3d! You'd be hard to explain that to someone who never lived pre-1971!
Weirdly a frozen milky way tastes better than a normal one in my humble thingamebob. "Roll on summer" is what I'm saying...”

“My grandparents lived on Boothferry road opposite a shop run by a lady called Mrs Andrews. She wore her dark hair in a bun and was always made up. Occasionally my brother and I were given half a crown to spend! I so loved the feel of the beautifully minted heavy coin in my hand it was sometimes hard to part with. Mrs Andrews had plenty to tempt us though, and it was all wrapped in pink and white candy striped cones.
We would buy the usual black jacks etc but I loved a chocolate bar that contained about 6 different chocolates in one piece, I think I only liked about two of them but I thought the bar was terribly sophisticated. My brother favoured a bar called ice breaker, it was like eating quality chocolate but with broken glass inside, the mint cracknell was dangerous! When it came to sweets from jars it was liquorice torpedoes , floral gums or sports mixture, my brother preferred blackcurrant and liquorice and we never shared!”

“I probably knew your grandparents Missfoodlove
I, too lived on Boothferry Rd (a bit further down) and remember Mrs Andrews and I recall the dark hair but she always wore her hair down because it was a WIG. Anyway we used to buy our fags from her with our dinner money. Ronnie Hilton's relatives had a wet fish shop along there too”

“Euraka, thanks Ronlucas, just googled it and your right.
Eight Milk Tray Chocolates, in a bar.
Imagine a box of Milk Tray Chocolates. Now imagine picking eight of the most popular chocolates – keeping their distinctive shapes – and putting them in a bar! The Milk Tray Bar had a cult following back in the 1970s and people still reminisce about it to this day.
It was originally launched in 1947 and was a favourite through to 1981.
Cheers, thought I may have dreamt it.”

This is basically how every Sensational post sounds in my head.
Do you remember Toffypops? Don't just remember them, buy them. People forgot about them enough for them to stop making them for a while. This cannot be allowed to happen again.”

“Anonymous_McGeoffrey, I shall take this as a huge complimento. Vic and Bob are gods in my eyes. We used to use the theme from Shooting Stars as the background to our answerphone message at the shop. I think what you're trying to say is that there's a certain element of sparkling wit whence I am on this forum. Thank you my love, one of the more sensible members of the team-on-ear.
I can't remember Missfoodlove's 'chocolates in a bar' strangely but can certainly remember Ron's 'Fry's Five Centre' which was a dream, although I wasn't usually a fan of dark chocolate.
To our younger members half a crown was twelve and a half pence in 'new' money. In old money it was two and six, that is effectively thirty old pence. That was a lot of money in those old heady days. You could buy enough goodies for a week! If we get out of the old 'Eorozone' I'd be happy if we could go back to shillings and pence. It would be smashing.”

“Ha, yes I have! I even add a little sugar to garden peas, although I'm perhaps not so elaborate as your good-self. I think you should have more cheese with everything (as my great friend jenoh will tell you). I'm gonna have to write some of these down so I can use 'em on my stage.”

“Mmm, yes i realised your thinking a couple of weeks ago on the Newlad thing MFL. Apollo is one on his own.You hear of him for a week or two then nothing for a while. A bit like my great chum Pippa. Although they're often in the wings waiting to strike! Woodtouch is one I'm missing. I get the impression he's elderly and easily put out so I hope he returns.”

“Rings a bell. What about Bazooka bubbly with a little comic inside and credits? You could save the credits and get gifts (as long as you could afford the postage to America). Oops, now Green Shield stamps spring to mind! Nice to reminisce. Better than arguing eh? Wink wink.”

“I wasn't allowed bubble gum! Catholic guilt haunted me and I was convinced that if I ever had any I would choke, die and go to hell!
I remember going through my grandparents green shield stamps book to see what could be exchanged, didn't the Co-Op have a similar scheme with blue stamps?
Oh,got the inspiration for a new thread, let's see if we can get this ******* bedroom tax off top spot, I need your help!”
Saturday, March 02 2013, 11:49AM
“Er, apparently it isn't a tax! Sorry. Right yes Co-op stamps or 'Corporative' as known as in these parts were another one of those loyalty schemes weren't they? When you think of the amount you got if you bought anything big! Would take you an hour to get em in the book. Outrageous!
Can you remember Arrow bars? My favourite were the banana split ones. Also had a passion for chocolate logs and what about Needlers glace fruit drops? My passion for ice-cream and coke goes back to Picadish (Hammonds top floor). We'd go to Locarno on a Saturday morning for a dance (or ABC minors if we fancied a change, then have an 'ice cream soda' at Picadish and get a window seat so we could watch the world go by. Brilliant. Always loved it up there cos the record-department was top floor too. I'd have been eleven.”
“Did anyone ever have a frozen Milky Way when they were a kid? Our local corner shop used to stick a lolly stick in one end and sell them. They were wonderful. Anyone else remember having one? And while we're at it, what other little treat do you remember from your childhood?”
