“Bo Selecta's 'Proper Crimbo' just seems to sum up the wonderful meaning of Christmas to me. A truly beautifully crafted piece. I like 'Away In A Manger' too.”

“Ever heard 'Freiheit's Keeping the Dream Alive'? Very McCartney-esque but without Googling it I don't think he had anything to do with it. A lovely tune, great harmonies, if a little over-produced.

I have not heard the tune you mentioned but will look out for it Floss.”

“Silent night was originally German or Austrian I think. (Stille nacht).Made a lot of good men cry together nearly a century ago.

Assuming you are joking about Bo Selecta and Wham here's my top three.
    1 Fairytale of New York
2 Happy Xmas (war is over)
3 I believe in Father Christmas.”

“Classical is 'Carol of the Bells'. Popular is Greg Lake's 'I believe in Father Christmas' just like Flossy. I listen to both with a tear.”

    “albaz,
Why do you assume I'm joking about Wham? I think it's the best Christmas pop song.
Out of your three, the only one I rate is Greg Lake's, the other two, nah.”

I suppose any proper Christmas song is better than the dross served up every for the last decade or so by Simon Cowell and ITV's cynical manipulation of the music buying sheep.”

“albaz, yes I was joking about Proper Crimbo but I'd say my favourite is probably Fairytale of New York followed by Wizzard and Shaky (Merry Christmas Everyone). That Freiheit tune always has a happy factor for me too. Haven't heard Pretty Paper for years, shall dig that one out.”

“There's a Steeleye Span tune called 'Gaudete' which is lovely. Never heard it on the Radio.

By the way, looking at my above posts it sounds like I'm having a blonde moment when I said i hadn't heard 'On A Starry Night' but I recognised it when I Googled it and remembered my daughter singing it at school.”

“So do I steveo and there's some decent singers on there. I remember when I first heard 'Time, Clock Of The Heart' by Culture Club I thought "Wow what a voice". So Boy George is on there, let's see Bono, George Michael, Paul Young, I think old Jim Kerr is on there from Simple Minds too. All very distinctive. if I catch it at the right moment it still brings a lump to my throat, mind you, I cry at a good episode of Emmerdale so who am I to talk, eh?”
