“I am not disagreeing with you but why don't you visit the Crown Courts (Friday is a day when a lot of them get sentenced) and hear for yourself the logic behind the sentencing?

There is no way that the HDM can report in a few words the whole of the case and why the sentence is as it is. And judges can only pass sentences that fall within the sentencing guidelines - which are decided by parliament. Maybe it is the MPs rather than the judges who are at fault here?”

“I see what your saying, but the judges have power (and i'm certain that the crime of stealing from the vulnerable and abusing your position of care and trust would carry a maximum sentence of at least 2 years - that's just a guess) so why don't they exercise it when it's appropriate.

I know we only get half the story when it goes to press, but the 2 i mentioned must have warranted a prison term surely. And i know prisons are bursting at the seams as it is so that's probably the main reason these 2 were spared jail, not good enough in my opinion and makes you feel the justice system lets us down at times.”

“I can understand why the judge didn`t send her to prison although I would have thought compensation for the victims would have been in order.
As for the fifteeen year old boy, I bet he thought all his birthdays and Christmasses had come at once.”

“I think the justice sytem lets us down all the time. I know of a woman who was punched in the face by a bully when her dog chased his dog's ball. He has told the police a ridiculous version of the events in which he claims she was shouting and swearing in his face after he kicked her dog because it savaged his hand and he pushed her away to protect himself and she just happened to fall over (and fracture her cheekbone)

She has two independant witnesses to the assault but I am 99% certain that if he is willing to plead guilty to pushing her then the CPS will accept that to save the cost of a trial. And if he does plead guilty neither she nor her witnesses will be called so his barrister will stand there and repeat his version of events and, because the judge will have no idea of what really happened, he'll get away with a slap on the wrist.”

“I'll agree with that Floss, I went past on Sunday afternoon and they were almost giving the chickens away (last few I think a couple of quid each or it might have been a quid). I stopped and looked then thought, 'nah'. I'd had my dinner by then anyway.”

    “@flossy

So having children is the key factor when punishing criminals, if you have kids you walk free. She never thought of her kids in the 2 year spree she was stealing the old folks money, i wonder how many times in total her hands went inside the old ladies purse whilst her back was turned, so i don't think that's justifiable reason to be fair.

As for the 15 year old boy, typical how the pervy woman isn't classed as a paedophile the same way if it was reversed (old man - young girl) a man would go on the sex offenders register for life, but not a woman, 10 years i think the story stated, talk about equality.”

    “EvolvedJonno,

I didn`t say I agreed with it, I said I understood why she didn`t go to prison but she should have had to pay compensation.

The woman with the 15 year old boy has to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years. That is the same no matter what gender you are depending on the severity of the crime. Usually the only offenders that have to sign the register for life have a long history of child abuse.
Even after the 10 years, if she applies for a job that needs enhanced CRB checks, it`ll come up on her record. Sex offenders crimes are never `spent`.”

“Of course crime pays! If it didn't and every criminal was caught every time they committed a crime, no one would ever break the law.

And actually, having children IS a factor when sentencing criminals.

    “jz,

I used to work for another company in Bransholme centre and one day there was the most disgusting smell in our warehouse. It smelled like something had died the week before. Centre security checked everywhere and couldn`t find anything and then one of the other shops reported their drains were blocked.
Apparently Crawshaws had been putting all the fat from their cooked meats down the drain but not using the chemicals to disolve it. All the drains and the main sewer for the centre had to be cleared.
The worse part though was that the drain cleaning company weren`t very careful and all the dumpsters were splattered with a mixture of sewage and unrefined lard.

I havent been in that shop since.”
