of Whitefriargate around the forties and fifties, before it's demise.
When everyone used to flock down Whitefriargate heading for the
Indoor Market and the Outdoor Market with a prize of Pattie and
Chips at Bob Carver's Stall. Before Argos , The Bank and Multi Story
Car Park were built - when the Salvation Army Car Park was on the
opposite side of the road to " Cooke's " - on that waste ground .
When Woolworth's was the Shop with everything at under Sixpence -
those long open polished wood counters full of almost everything -
the Pound Shops had nothing on Woolworth's . When you could buy
Meat, Chickens , Turkeys , Fish and Veg. in the Market late on a
Saturday at knock out prices .There is so much more that could be
related . Do you think we are coming round in a circle eventually.
It would be lovely to see that area re-developed .”
