“Anon-Geoff, what exactly is your gripe? I assume that as you fall in to the category of a high earner then you can survive. The following up to date information from HMRC website.
Child Benefit: Income Tax Charge for Those on Higher Incomes
Who is likely to be affected?
The charge will be applied to taxpayers whose income exceeds £50,000 in a tax year and who are in receipt of Child Benefit and to taxpayers whose income exceeds £50,000 and whose partner is in receipt of Child Benefit. In the event that both partners have an income that exceeds £50,000, the charge will apply only to the partner with the highest income.”

“@AnonGeoff: If, as stated, this applies to people earning more than £50,000 a year (currently more than US$80,000), I do think that you ought to have clarified the issue a bit. Hardly the sort of folk who have to sit down on Saturday morning and choose between Pot Noodles and bog roll for the coming week, eh? But if this assertion is false, well, let's sort that out, all...
I don't get the 'hypothetical children' bit. No comment there. Help please??
As for dragging Yeshua ben Jehosephat into the whole bleeding mess... What??? Are you trying to get smacked with an antiSemitism accusation? Or what?”

“MrSeptic,
Hi there, welcome back it's been a while. I agree with you on the clarification! I think it is one big drunken rant, it makes very little sense and I still have not managed to figure out where Jesus fits in to all of this.
With regards to the benefit and tax, this is a generous perk that has been paid to the parents/carers of all children in the U.K regardless of income. It is paid from birth until the child leaves full time education. The majority of my circle feel the new threshold is fair.”

“Woah now. "Drunken rant"? In the middle of the day? Bit harsh.
He doesn't mention the £50,000 cap. He just mentions his HYPOTHETICAL children. As in "not real" "imaginary" "dreamed up to make a point"
The point I think he's making is that as he is childless there is a benefit that he has never received which has now been cut but you don't see him making a fuss (except on here obviously).
Having to explain jokes/arguments makes the liddle bebby Jesus cry :'-(”

“Exactly.
"I didn't earn it, I don't need it, but if they miss one payment I'll raise hell!" - Simpson.
I don't need to clarify anything, you take what you will.
Not drunk, not on over £50k, and no children. All this reminds me of the comprehension exercises from GCSE English.”

“Anon_Geoff
It's a good job that two of us understand what you are talking about.
Still don't understand the $ conversion though :( I'd rather know the equivalent in Japanese Yen.
Especially as it's 6,946,345.60 JPY. Thank goodness for Google - even if they aren't paying UK tax. Or is that Starbuks? Or am I getting confused with Amazon?”
“OK.. I've ranted a lot about this sort of thing but now it affects me personally so I agree with you all.
The new Child Benefit Tax is an offensive and blatant disgrace against me and humankind in general. But mostly me. And Jesus.
Apparently, because I have less than the requisite number of children my child benefit has been reduced to nil.
What if one of my hypothetical children was disabled? Or fighting to defend democracy, oil and the American Way overseas gawdblessourboys?
HOW CAN THIS BE FAIR?
COMPASSION?
I BLAME EVERYONE BUT ESPECIALLY THE LEFT/RIGHT (delete as appropriate for your particular polical leaning)”
