“I consider myself neutral on this, as I do not give to any charity.

But purely from a logical pov, most animals do not live very long compared to humans and are not self aware anyway (with the odd exception), so why bother?”

“It's quality of life that matters, not longevity. I would give my money to animal charities any day over human ones. Using your logic, a child with a life limiting illness shouldn't qualify for help then?”

“I don't tend to donate to any charities on a regular basis, having said that, I've done charity discos a few time over the years. But I'll pop a few pence in a pdsa or rspca 'dog' (there's one in ASDA Hessle Road that gets my shrapnel.) I think that if a quality of life is improved, human or animal, no matter for what length of time, it is a positive so people should donate if they wish/can.”

“"Whether an animal is hungry today or not, it will not remember tomorrow."

It will if it is living somewhere where it isn't being fed. Because it will be hungry permanently - until it dies of starvation of course.

    Gandhi said "

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Replace 'nation' with 'poster' and that also applies.”

Actually there is very little support from the government for most charities. Which is why hospices are always fundraising and the shopping centres are full of stands for " Help for Heroes".
We rely far too heavily on charities to keep things at an acceptable level in this country.”

John 1947 first brought up the subject of Alzheimers with a valid point. All you`ve done is make a mockery of the disease and then try to wriggle out of it.

And in answer to the point you made, alzeimers sufferers, in the latter stages, have no awareness whatsoever.
People should put their brains into gear before making comments about things they know nothing about.”

If I had some form of dementia I'd expect people to be able to make a quip about it (actually i can't always remember where i parked the car and have had a couple of parking tickets cos I've been searching down the wrong street.) I'd say something to the parking warden like "Oops. My flippin' memory, sure I've got dementia". This is the British way. Can you tell me what ailments and conditions you don't mind me making a little funny over? If i know I'll know. Now, if i said "All dementia sufferers are idiots" I can see how this might be interpreted. Don't you worry, i don't mock the afflicted. It's not exactly big is it?”
