“I think this is a woman thing. I know from personal experience that I'm not affected at all, I do not watch anything on commercial TV. My wife on the other hand is a nightmare, if anything new appears in a commercial on TV it will be in our house soon after. I know after speaking to friends that their experience is similar to mine.
The ad agencies know what they are doing.”

“I am not at all influenced. I tend to watch the BBC channels but Channel4 do some good programmes and I love Judge Judy on ITV2 and CBS Reality.
However I record EVERYTHING before I watch it so if it does have adverts I just fast forward over them. And even if I did, I can't imagine them influencing me. They might alert me to a new product but I wouldn't buy it unless I really wanted to.
A neighbour was dreadful though. She used to watch QVC (before there were so many similar channels on TV) and bought everything she saw advertised. And I mean everything. She even insisted on buying a yellow, non-kink garden hose to replace her basic green one. She had a simple, square garden that I watered for her so her green hose never kinked anyway and it was completely unnecessary.
After she died and her daughter cleared her house it was stuffed full of things she had bought from QVC - most of them still in their packages. Un-opened and un-used.”

“Flossy , Do you know , I do not think I really am . I
have been thinking hard but I seem to be influenced by
price mostly and you know I am finding a lot of products
such as Supermarket own brands are just as good and in
fact , often better than the Brand Names . I also like to
" feel " the product before buying .

“Personally I don`t think I am influenced by TV ads and would deliberately avoid the products advertised by annoying blokes, i.e. Go Compare & Safe Style UK. However I realised recently just how much some people are `brainwashed` by them. Twice in as many days I`ve heard the silliest remarks.
One girl referred to Werthers Originals as `Old Man`s sweets` and a man, when asked if he wanted any Werthers replied " Why, I`m not a pensioner?"
Not quite what the advertisers had in mind I don`t think.”

“How fickle I have become....
I aspire to jigging around like a size 0, M&S model in my christmas jumper smiling and having fun with my good looking friends, impeccably behaved kids and model husband.
I want my lad to go to uni and then look forward to coming home to me and my homely cooking (my cooking isn't fab, but I try)
My breakfasts are way more stressful than the adverts. I have a 10 year old sulking into his snap crackle and pop, and when I tell him how lucky he is and that kids around the world are starving , he says send it to them then 'simples'.
Everyday I wake up and start the morning feeling I have failed :(”

“Yes of course telling someone that they drink is a compliment.

"How lovely deadscrawlings. I shall take that as a compliment, as I'm sure it is aimed as one."
Completely self-delusional. Hasn't a regular poster on here got a brother who can throw light on this?”

“Telling someone tht they drink has got to be better than calling them a tee-totaller. If you called me that I'd be proper offended! Now, help us with a dilemma please poltergeistprinter....
When I get home from the rink tonight I know I'll fancy a refreshing bottle of Bulmer's (one in the fridge so no worries up to now). But I'll be watching Channel 4 (comedy sponsored by Foster's) so I'll immediately get a pang for the Amber Nectar. Has anyone ever had a glass of cider mixed with lager? What was it like? It's a worry!
Sod it I'll give it a go. If I spit it out I simply just empty the glass and re-fill with the Foster's. Ha.”
“How heavily influenced are we by television advertising?”
