Am I correct in thinking that the Beverley Arms is in - errr - Beverley?
This forum is about visiting Hull.
Still it's nice to know that despite the grasping MPs, councillors and utility companies you can still afford to visit foreign shoes (first Paris, now Beverley, where next?) and sample the cuisene on offer.”

“The simple answer is events. The more interesting events are organised and what is also important advertised, the more people will come to visit - the kind of people who will want to come for a day or two. And obviously, for that Hull would need to have enough hotels, parking places, etc..”

“wozza on this one you have missed my point ...
bsandra liking the thought process - pop concerts festivals ...let's think of some really random fresh ideas
I think we should host the worlds biggest fancy dress party for people dressed as ghosts at Halloween lead by Jean Bishop the buzzy bee ... east park to have a massive teddy bears picnic ... world leading beer festivals .. a christmas craft market in trinity to attract and make our European counterparts well jealous ... a sea shanty festival ... bring back the firework display on 5th November ... a big Chinese festival at new year to attract international trade with lanterns lit in marina ... lets develop the arts ...let's show the world that we are not all chavs ... WE ARE HULL .. WE ARE PROUD .. in fact let Jean Bishop turn the lights on this year not some **** z list celebrity ... I LOVE HULL”

“You'd be talking about Paul Northage (he's a plumber by trade) and he was pretty clued up on the rock stuff. i have a pair of speakers that are still on the go, that were his originilly back in 1982. I bought them off him to DJ in Hull Cheese along with a Haze double turntable. I was probably earning more then than I am now!”

“bt13jz, yeah, it's very weird looking, but sort of cool too imo. And is definitely on my list of things to visit.
And just like the toads, it is an example of making something out of nothing.
I went to Verona to see Juliet's balcony and Romeo's tomb, knowing they never existed.”

“Anon_Geoff, was the word you asterisked out designed to make me love you more? Let me guess at the word, mm four letters so it can't be beaut, sweety or honey. So I'm guessing at darl or love ah or perhaps mate . My cousin is also called Geoff so I know you're special. I'm touched but sadly, it is a relationship that can never happen. I'm hetero. Soz! Oh yes, by the way, I did triple post. Does that mean i have to pay some sort of fine? I'll send it to you shall I?”

“You think its a man that asterisks them out? You know when you get your cash out of a cash machine? There's no man in there. I hope you're not using a Man to send me these messages! You're making me feel uneasy *d*a*r*l*. You see, that was funny but you'll never give me credit for it. T'would be regarded as being uncool, perhaps like a trippple pppost? Hahahahahahaha!”

“Back to the point...
I would suggest developing the marina area and general riverfront into a more cafe/boutique area. A greater emphasis on pedestrianisation of busy shopping areas with covered areas. A proper look at a York style park and ride from Priory Park, Beverley High Road and Marfleet. A Sheffield style tram system and a premium city centre parking fee to deter cars in combination with a proper ring road to keep HGV's using the city centre to a minimum to improve air quality.
A proper real music venue to encourage big draw music acts such as Sheffield, Sunderland and Coventry attract. A proper licensing policy which looks at an emphasis on 'less problem' venues such as specific music genre clubs (jazz/blues/rock/indie etc...) and cafe bars; with a move away from the 'clubbing/drink 'til you drop' venues.
An diverse and large bi-weekly (at least) market with a proper international flavour with a positive support for local farm produce.
And finally a rolling program to refurbish former/derelict industrial sites into either office/hightech or luxury residential dwellings particularly in the city centre/riverside zone. The heavier industries should be actively encouraged to locate new development in the dock areas.”

“Tell visitors it's a lot safer to visit Hull than it is to visit Bradford or Leeds, no gang related shootings and West Yorkshire is a hotbed of uninsured drivers.
The slogan " Come to Hull, it's only dull occasionally and the chances are you won't get your head blown off or hit by an uninsured driver".
I think we could be on to a winner!”

“firstly, lets make the people more aware of what hull has to offer, seems our good citys name is continually run down by people who make flying visits to the city, enroute probably to some other destination, via the bridge or ferrys, the charms of hull are never made public by the people who run the city, they never hit back at adverse publicity of our great city, but are content to sit back and let several misinformed nincompoops trample all over the good name of kingston upon hull.”
Tuesday, August 28 2012, 9:49AM
“let them know of the past and present history of hull, how the king was refused entry, wilberforces fight against slavery, the amy johnson story more on the rank family, the times of the greatest fishing port in the world, which made such a telling contribution to feeding the people of our lands and beyond ,the ports contribution to minesweeping operations during the war,the many fishermen who crewed the vessels during the arctic convoys to russia in those dark days, how a city so cruelly hit during the blitz,a fact continually kept from the people outside of our city, has fought back to be the city that we are today, and how proud we are that we are to be from the city of kingston upon hull, yes hull has a great history not surpassed by many citys in the british isles, just let it be known.”
“I love Hull ... There are a lot of new hotels and some really big hotel chains interested in our town ... what can we do to encourage more people to visit us ???”
