“Could be your cookie blocker not working right, or a virus has got past your firewall. Must admit I am encountering similar problems. I updated my blocker but alas think it was a tad too late. Noticed the site seems slower on a dongle.”

“Very slow on a dongle I've noticed, and sometimes loses connection. Was putting that down to my not updating my virus checker for about 8 days. Think something has slipped in.”

“You can't use the site without accepting cookies.

I am tired of that holiday ad at the top of the news page that keeps opening when you try and open stories, but if we don't like that we'll have to pay to use the site. It's not a charity - someone has to pay the staff wages.”

I keep getting a pop-up from Clarins!!, they obviously don't know that I have no need whatsoever for beauty products, after all, you can't polish a t***.”

“Clearly we all are having the same problem , I find them annoying , but like G69 says , its all about money and revenue collecting.
Albeit the same site , I don't think the problem is as bad on the Hull City sports page , or is that just me getting it wrong ?”

“There was one thread that mentioned football and every time I opened it, a video of something to do with a football match fired up and slowed the site right down.

You can close the Clarins ad but there is an 'open' button at the bottom of the page that you can hit by accident and open it again.”

    Are we affected by adverts?”

“Love them. When steveodore said he didn't watch commercial tv I found it (may I be so bold) a tad strange. Even if you don't watch them, how do you make a cup of tea? OK Sky+ but how did you used to make a CUPPA?

But I'm not affected by them, if I never saw another one I wouldn't die. . I mean, you don't start getting heartburn when the Gaviscon one comes on.

My favourite is the lady-horses on the Muller light or whatever it is. The dark haired one is dreamy, never mind creamy!

Oops forgive me, about eight references to me, but someone asked.”

You only go for eye candy ad's then , although an eye catching ad , I really have a laugh at the Argos out of this world family , best ad about at the moment in my opinion .”

“I think that the pretty girl concept has almost worked but I'm still not sure if it's Muller or Philadelphia.

Yes i agree that the alien Argos people are good and the first one was a clever idea. We're up to about the fifth one now or perhaps more, they're all variations on the same theme though I find.

I loved the John Lewis ad where the couple were from different times. That was brilliant, Yes I'm a bit of an ad person. Everything I watch is on commercial TV. They'll call me a tabloid reading chav now eh? I'll get over it! Mind you, I never watch ITV news. Has to be Beeb one or Sky, so i might claw back a house-point there eh?”

“Ah, now that was the point of my thread. We all have ads that we enjoy, mine is the snow people for John Lewis although I must admit I`m getting a bit fed up of it now. But, it doesn`t make me want to shop at John Lewis.
Most ads put off the product they are advertising anyway. There`s no way I could use Go Compare after, first that obnoxious singer and now the OTT Lois Spence.”

“Thing is though, the name of the Company might as well be imprinted on your brain. What about CompareTheMeerkat? And when that insurance is due, even if a small percentage of the population fall for it, it has worked! Hence why it's on every day!

I actually changed my motor insurance because of it and saved about 47 quid. And i asked Churchill (another classic?) if they could match it cos I'd have rather stayed with them. They couldn't and I changed.”

Well I don't watch them. My friend (who I was coaching maths to and had the audacity to mention I'm a celebrity to me) told me about a graze ad where you order healthy snack boxes. I was fast forwarding over some ads and saw it so stopped and watched it. You are supposed to be able to get a free sample but to do so you have to give them your credit card details.

I aborted my journey through their web site to order one and they knew (Big Brother thread?) because they sent me an email.”

I never get inspired to buy a partic product or shop in a certain store simple because of a TV advert , however I suppose they can influence your choice , in partic , if your in the market to buy whatever is being advertised , I guess you sit up and take notice simple because it is advertising the product that your wanting , but there is also the entertainment value , even if your not in the market to buy . ( GCtheDJ's Meerkats ! they are great )
Does all this make sense or is it a load of dribble ?”

“Funny you should mention this, yes, the HDM site in particular is very badly affected by what I presume is the insidious, ubiquitous DoubleClick ad spammer. Wherever I try to click on the HDM site, because the site operates so slowly, I find I'm opening an utterly annoying, irrelevant ad. Can it be disabled? Ive seen that its something that you download by accepting the site Cookie-now wasnt that a user-friendly little extra?”

You can disable them and read the HDM stories but you can't comment without them.

Some sites - such as Facebook and Hotmail - can't be used if they are disabled.”

No stupid ads, jingles or inane DJs promoting their own inflated egos.

I don't even like talk radio.”

“That surprises me (the talk radio bit) because a forum person like yourself would, I would have thought, been right at home with it. I've always been a big fan of 'The Big Show' on Radio 2 (Stevie Wright in the afternoon) and notice he's been using some splendid jingles (all new) these last few days.

So, just music, no ads/jingles/DJs eh? Gawd, what's it gonna be called? Sleepradio? That's be like eating veg without the mea..... oh yeah, exactly. YAK!”

“Oh Steve Wright. Talks over the records, perpetuates the myth of astrology and plays the "non-stop" Oldies which stop all the time (news, him talking, jingle, him talking etc).

It's often on at work which is why I know so much about it.

Jeremy Vine is a wonderful opportunity for indignant shouting at numpty members of the public.”

“I used to love "Ask Elvis" and once nearly crashed the van laughing at Elvis singing the Doctor Who theme.

Now it just feels so overblown considering the actual content is a bit thin.

    Factoids
    A recorded celebrity interview
    A guest
    Continually stopping oldies

It's a bit hyperbolic to refer to it as "The Big Show" and have such an epic theme tune. The music at the end is ridiculous - it's so emotional as if the presenters have given their all and are exhausted.”

Elaine Paige can bog right off but is another good opportunity for shouting.”

“I see your point about the sad theme at the end but the show itself is presented as a magazine and I always think it works well. You still get about eight or so oldies even if there's a bit of news or traffic. I've always admired the man.”

    “jenoh,
Simon Mayo show after Steve Wright is OK, some of the confessions are quite funny and he plays some decent tunes, especially the Mosh slot.
Steve Wright's show just seems to be one guest after another with summat to flog or promote ( like all the chat shows these days) or Barry from Watford or the old woman. I agree with you about the Elvis slot, that was sometimes hilarious, unlike the real Elvis who I can't stand.”
