'Keep your dog on a lead': Woman's warning after pet killed in road
A distraught pet owner is warning others to keep their dog on a lead after her beloved German Shepherd was killed in a main road in Hull.
Barbara Clappison, 78, was walking her dog Penny along Robson Way on Sunday when she shot out into the road and was hit by a car at about 4.30pm.
The dog was not on a lead at the time and the driver drove off straight away.
Barbara said: "I will never forgive myself but the driver could have had the common decency to stop and speak to me.

“the dog should have been on a lead what if the car had been in a fatal colision because of the dog im sorry for the dog owner but anyone who has dog of a lead should be fined there are laws in this country that are never enforced unless it is a motorist an absolute fact ,cyclist are another one but thats another subject”

“So many people let their dogs off leads near roads. I remember an old guy stood on the grass opposite welwyn park on Beverley road, he was sobbing his heart out because his dog had run into the road and been killed. That was over 30 years ago but it's something I have never forgotten. As a dog lover my heart goes out to this lady, dog owners please listen to her plea and keep your dogs on a lead, even if they walk to heel and are obedient, things can change in a second.”

“A terrible story, but yes the dog should've been on a lead on a busy road. To the man who hit the dog - if you're reading this, I hope you can't sleep at night, you selfish pig!”
