18:41 - 13-May-2008

Fifth Avenue Primary School is looking for former pupils to help celebrate the opening of its new site.

Pupils at the school in Fifth Avenue, north Hull, will be moving to a new eco-friendly building, to be called Greenway Primary School.

Staff are now appealing to former pupils of the school, which dates back to the 1930s, to officially open the new building.

Paul Bird, deputy headteacher at the school, said: “We are looking for former pupils to come along and celebrate the closing of the old school and the opening of the new Greenway School.

“The new school has been built on the same site, but at the far end and will have access from 21st Avenue.”

The oldest former pupil which the school has found to help celebrate is 85.

Pupils are set to move into the school on June 4, however the official opening ceremony will not take place until July 2.

It is to be the most eco-friendly in Hull.

Mr Bird said: “We will have our own wind power, everything is eco-friendly. The whole thing is as modern as you can get.”

The new school is expected to cost about £4.3m.

Former pupils of Fifth Avenue are invited to call the school on (01482) 331378.
