Students head to US to link up with top music academy Stax

Six students from Hull College's School Of Performance Arts have jetted off to the famous Stax Music Academy Summer School.

The students have travelled to Memphis, US, to take part in workshops with the Stax students in the first partnership with the music school.

As well as this, staff from Hull College are to deliver lectures to the academy.

The Stax Academy is famous throughout the world and was developed from the Stax record label, one of the original soul music producers, which had legends including Otis Redding on its books.

It is hoped the trip will become an annual event and Hull College will host Stax students in the future.

While in Memphis, the students will have the chance to record music in the iconic Sun Studios, the studios where Elvis Presley first recorded.

Course leader Craig Steer said: "This is an amazing opportunity for Hull College and its students.

"To be the first college to partner with Stax is very special and our learners are keen to get as much experience as they can, as well as developing new skills."
