Teacher suspended 'over e-mails'

07:00 - 07-May-2008

A teacher has been suspended at one of the region's largest secondary schools.

The Mail understands a male teacher has been suspended from Driffield School for sending inappropriate e-mails to a pupil.

Driffield School and East Riding Council have refused to confirm the reason for the suspension, however.

The council issued a brief statement saying: “An East Riding teacher is currently suspended and the school is undertaking a full investigation under the school's disciplinary policy.

“The police are not involved in the case.

“There will be no further comment until the disciplinary process is complete.”

Humberside Police confirmed they have been informed, but are not taking any action.

A force spokeswoman said: “We are aware of it, but we have left it to the local authority to deal with.

“No criminal offences have been revealed.”

It is understood there will be a disciplinary hearing next Thursday.

The Mail attempted to contact headteacher Martin Green, but he was not available for comment.

The chairman of governors Graham Storey, declined to comment.
