Pupils at an Orchard Park school sent home after water main burst
06:00 - 14-May-2008
The school was one of around 2,000 properties affected after a water main burst at the junction of Orchard Park Road and Hall Road.
Although the water was later restored, the school said it had to send all 171 children home because of the problems the supply interruption had caused.
Headteacher Maureen Dyer said: “The kids use the toilets and the kitchens need water to prepare food and the tank was not refilling.”
It is thought the problem was caused by building work being carried out by a contractor. It was reported at 8.50am and an engineer was on site within 15 minutes.
Repairs were today being carried out but water was restored by rerouting it from other areas.
A spokesman for Yorkshire Water said: “Not all the affected customers will have been without water, some will only have had a drop in water pressure.”
