Appeal against Sixpenny wind farm rejection

Appeal against Sixpenny wind farm rejection
How the wind farm would look

AN appeal has been lodged against East Riding Council's decision to reject plans for a wind farm near Howden.

Your Energy Ltd has appealed against the decision to reject the Sixpenny Wood Wind Farm project near Gilberdyke.

The company insists the 10-turbine wind farm will generate enough safe, clean, renewable electricity for up to 12,800 households.

Your Energy Ltd also argued that, with almost 2,500 letters sent in favour, support outweighed objections by nearly five to one.

But in October councillors voted to refuse permission for the scheme due to its 'sheer size and scale'.

Now an independent planning inspector will judge the merits of the application.

Your Energy Ltd's development manager Charlotte Healey said: "This is an excellent site for a wind farm and believe we have excellent grounds for an appeal.

"Not only will Sixpenny Wood Wind Farm make a significant contribution to the battle against climate change, but the level of public support demonstrates that the majority of people in the East Riding understand that we simply have to take action now."

The Planning Inspectorate will now set a date for a public inquiry.
