Breaking news: Major Hull roads to be resurfaced this weekend

06:00 - 06-May-2008

Crumbling roads across Hull will be re-surfaced this weekend after months of misery for motorists, Hull City Council revealed this morning.

The road surfaces on Spring Bank, Hall Road, Holderness Road and Sculcoates Lane were only laid last summer.

But within months they started falling apart leaving some sections without any grip at all.

Now contractors who laid the original stone chip dressings are back in Hull this weekend to re-apply surfacing in the worst areas.

A city council spokeswoman said the work would be carried out under guarantee at no extra cost to the authority.

“The operation may take a few hours at each street and whilst the contractor is on site there will be disruption to traffic,” she added.

“It has not been possible to re-apply the surface dressing sooner because the laying of the dressing is seasonal and can only be performed in the warmer months.”

As well as the four major routes, re-surfacing work will also be carried out on sections of Stoneferry Road, Ferry Lane, Wawne Road, Strickland Street, Marfleet Avenue, Endymion Street, Rosmead Street, Russell Street, Raywell Street, Liddel Street and Francis Street.
