Breaking news: Police urge bird watchers to 'back off' from rare breeds

Humberside Police are urging bird watchers to back off and let the red kite breed in peace in the Wolds area of the county.
Officers are asking members of the public to keep their distance if they see one of the graceful birds of prey in the countryside.
A programme to reintroduce the birds, that almost became extinct, has been a conservation success story in East Yorkshire.
Sergeant Chris Hine, wildlife officer, said: “It is possible that the disturbance is being caused by bird watchers who are keen to observe the kites at close quarters but may be unaware of the consequences of their actions.
“The red kite is a specially protected rare bird and any disturbance of them, at or around a nest site, attracts high penalties of £5000 per bird disturbed.”
