Revised plan for wind farm submitted

CAMPAIGNERS have vowed to fight plans for a wind farm on land between Burton Pidsea and Roos.

However, the firm behind the scheme, Renewable Energy Systems (RES), hopes the revised proposals for a nine-turbine wind farm on Sunderland Farm will be successful.

A previous project featuring 11 turbines was turned down by East Riding Council in October last year.

Anti-wind farm campaigners claimed a victory after councillors voted unanimously to reject the proposal.

Now, they say they are ready to fight the latest plans.

David Winter, chairman for Roos Parish Council, said: "We don't want wind farms in the area.

"They are unnecessary and they will have a big visual impact on the area. We will be fighting the plans."

RES said it has removed the two most contentious turbines, which had been sited closest to the historic Constable Mausoleum in the original application.

The wind farm will produce enough electricity to power more than 11,000 homes.

Amy Bambridge, the community relations manager for RES, said: "Finding suitable wind farm sites can be difficult, when constraints such as housing, wind speeds, environmental designations and access routes are taken into account. The Sunderland Farm site is very well-suited to a wind farm, and RES is wholly committed to this project."

East Riding Council is expected to make a decision on the new application in spring.
