'I feel lost after brother's death'
THE sister of a 23-year-old father-of-two from Hull who died when his car ploughed into a tree says she "feels lost" without him.
Flowers lay outside Elm Lodge, Hornsea Road, Great Hatfield, near Hornsea, where Michael Mathieson, known by his friends as Jezz, died.
He was travelling back home in his MG after a game of darts with friends in Hornsea when he crashed through a fence and into a tree on Friday at 12.50am.
Mr Mathieson, who worked at the Aldbrough Gas Storage facility for a company called Hertel, had been living with his sister Samantha Mathieson at Wickenby Garth, Bransholme, for the past six months.
She said: "He was full of life and cheeky, but a good brother who looked out for me.
"He loved music, especially R'n'B and liked going to watch Hull Kingston Rovers play in the big games. I feel lost without him."
The former Winifred Holtby and Kingswood pupil is said to have always been able to put a smile on his sister's face.
She said: "He was a character, funny and always liked to be the centre of attention."
Miss Mathieson said her brother was devoted, not just to his two children, Cleo, seven, and Harley, three, but also to her two children, Joe McKenzie, three, and 18-month-old Jak.
She said: "He would see his kids, who lived with their mum in Bransholme, a few times a week. Although, with working 12-hour shifts he tended to be only able to see them at weekends in the past few months.
"He was a good dad though, taking them to the seaside and East Park. He would spend as much time as he could with them."
Emergency services were sent to the crash scene after being alerted by homeowners Malcolm and Christine Taylor, who were woken by the accident.
The car hit an elm tree in the couple's garden and although paramedics fought to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigating the cause of the crash said Mr Mathieson's MG was travelling along Hornsea Road into Great Hatfield when the accident happened.
Anyone with information about the crash should call Humberside Police on 0845 6060222.

“Considering the full circumtances of the accident are not yet known nobody has any right to make assumptions as to the cause. Wiggy and Pingu you should be ashamed of yourselves for your hurtful and unnecessary comments. Whatever happened two young children have lost their daddy and Sam has lost her brother, their whole family is suffering and will never be the same again. So stop being so judgemental and show a bit of compassion and respect!! -Sam, we are thinking about you and the boys and send you all our love - Dee, Jon and Jacob xxxxxxx”
