Researchers at Lancaster University analysed the diaries of 48 flood victims from the city, many still marooned in temporary accommodation.
The findings outline residents woes and heartache in the aftermath of the floods on June 25, last year, and how lengthy insurance processes have added to their misery.
Despite the findings of the study, a spokeswoman from the ABI defended its members actions.
She said: “We understand dealing with the aftermath of having your home flooded can be a long and stressful process and we have been doing all we can to ensure it is as stress-free as possible by arranging interim payments and temporary accommodation and ensuring that building work is carried out as soon as it can be started.”
Carole White, of Corona Drive, east Hull, took part in the study.
She previously told the Mail: “I felt so low and my husband was very worried about me at one point. At times I have felt as though I’m never going to get back to normal.”
The findings of the study into Hull flood victims will now be forwarded to Sir Michael Pitt, who is carrying out the Government’s flood report.
