All the fun of the fair: tallest ride in the country comes to Hull
Hull Fair-goers are going to have the chance to experience the tallest ride in the country this year.
The Starflyer ride, which swings riders up and around its 60 metre tower, is currently located at Jubilee Gardens on London's South Bank but will be travelling to Hull in time for the fair to open on Friday October 5.
The ride is only for those with a head for heights but will offer a bird's eye view of the city.

The fair, which runs until Saturday October 13 (excluding Sunday October 7), will also feature over 250 other rides and 113 stalls and games. There will also be around 55 children's rides, including trampolines, fun houses, helter skelters and mini versions of the teenage rides.
Children's rides open at 2pm and the whole fair opens at 5pm until 11pm.
Councillor Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: “Last year saw over 500,000 people enjoy the Fair and we hope it proves as popular as ever this year.
“Having the tallest ride in the country come to Hull shows the calibre of the fair and the high regard in which is is held. Having new thrilling rides such as Starflyer, along with the vibrant atmosphere and fairground traditions, the fair will continue to attract people from far and wide."
We will have further Hull Fair stories and updates in the run up to the opening night.

“Just come back from the fair and the rides were wonderful and the atmosphere was fantastic.
Did see a woman walking a black labrador down Walton Street. Really not the place to take a doggy. A dog's hearing is ten times more acute than a human's so God knows what the poor thing was hearing down there.
That StarFlyer needs to be revved up a bit, otherwise fine.”

“"a lot of 'out of town' visitor's experience of our wonderful, forward thinking city!"
Now, india7, I am pro-development of Hull, and there is a lot going for this historic city, but in its current state it is FAR from wonderful and even further removed from being a "forward thinking city"!!
You might think that of Liverpool or Manchester or Birmingham, but Hull... it should be, but it is not!
Back on topic...
Hull Fair is an important calendar event but it is waaaaaay too expensive these days... mainly due to the Council overcharging ride owners in stand fees, and also due to the Government's astronomical fuel duties meaning diesel is so very very expensive.”

“Its what you make of it realy,me personally think its over priced and full of scammers but saying that love to wonder around and take in the sights and smells without going on the rides....I bet the overseas pickpocket gangs we seem to have working in beverley erea will be very buisy this year at the fair,so beware and prepair yourself by not taking wallets and purses or bags just put your money already broken down into smaller coins and notes into your hip pocket of your jeans/trousers which is said to be the only pocket thats virtually impossible to steal from..Oh and just for once leave the expensive fone at home just for one nite....”

“HCAF the one problem with you suggestion.
The Allams want the land and the stadium for free. and if they build anything, it will be for their benefit not ours.
You should get wise”

“And all the money spent at the fair during the short time its here leaves the city...
what a waste of money....
SELL THE SCRUFFY CAR PARK AND THE KC STADIUM TO THE ALLAMS
They will build something to benefit the people all year round and bring in jobs and
improvements in the area .
Stupid Hull City Council..”

“Not a great lover of Hull fair, overpriced and over rated, how many people will lose mobile phones and wallets this year on the rides never to be seen again, Can understand the attraction for some, bright lights and sweet smells just think that the average Joe will be paying way over the top for a ride that lasts a couple of minuts. Those who go I hope you enjoy it but I for one will be saving mky pennies for a nice little holiday.”
