Sweet Musica plays at Talent Trail
A DAZZLING duo proved twice the fun for Talent Trail fans as La Musica made it through to the Grand Final of the 2009 competition.
The vocal duo from Tingley, West Yorkshire, lit up the stage with their renditions of Hallelujah, Ain't That A Kick in The Head and The Prayer.
The pair – Adam James and Lisa Pearson – not only belted out their chosen songs but amused the audience with their ad-lib comedy, namely referring to each other as Coronation Street characters.
Lisa, who by day works as a national account manager for Sainsbury's, said: "We are really pleased to go through to the final.
"We have only recently started up as a duo, so were not sure if we were ready to enter the competition this year but we have already had a booking off the back of our last heat."
Also securing a place in the semi-final were Dirty Wish.
The five-piece band, who were the first on stage at the Dee Street Social Club, off Hessle Road, west Hull, kicked off their set with Dakota, followed by Maggie May and All Right Now.
Speaking after the judges' revealed the results, the band summed up their emotions as "ecstatic", adding: "We never thought we would suit this type of competition so we are really glad to get through."
The event marked the last of the four semi-finals of Talent Trail 2009, which is sponsored by Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott and DevilfishPoker.com.
Each of the eight acts who performed on Tuesday had made it through as winners of previous heats so the competition was fierce.
And the audience seemed to appreciate the standard with each performer being given a loud round of applause at the end of their set.
The acts who did not make it through to the final were Dean Moon, Rachel Clark, Sweet Harmony, Haydn Woods, Russ X and Samantha.
Tickets are now on sale for the Grand Final of the competition, which takes place at Hull City Hall on Wednesday, May 20.
All money raised through this year's competition will go to the Echoes Foundation.
Tickets cost £8 and are available from the Hull City Hall Box Office or by calling (01482) 226655.

“Hi, everyone.
I¿m in the band, and have been watching the comments, over the last week; thankfully I have a sense of humour, and haven¿t taken these comments to heart.
Firstly, Dave Norman was on holiday, we had been asked to supply and setup our own PA system for that evening. given that the sound you heard is generated by guitar amps and drums, only the vocals was through our PA, a puney 200watt a side mixer amp, when compared with six speaker, 1500 watt, pro set up that everybody else used. I was that concerned that we didn¿t have enough power for this size of Dee street club, I asked if we could go through there PA ¿ and was flatly refused!!!, so, considering we set ourselves up, with no sound checking help from the guys running the PA, with all things in, going on first, I think we did ok!!!
As for the Devilfish performance, we were asked at the interval if he could get up with us after the results were in, that was totally winged, and for those thought that it was staged, for us to win, he did the same with ¿bad dog¿ in there semi, they won as well, ¿That¿s something for the conspiracy theorists¿ now the video is up, have a listen, we all sound very even to me.
I personally think all the acts performed very well that night, especially La Musica, who for me had it in the bag from there first song, strange that now one has commented on how good they are, as for us, nobody was more shocked than we were to go through, but as in all competitions everybody¿s a judge,
And judges are there to be disagreed with.
Happy days, Carl”

“I would just like to say that i was at the last semi-final and yes i agree the sound was not good, unfortunately the people who normally do the sound were unable to that night, hence the stand in. In reference to Damian, yes he did say "they would like to win" and i can confirm i have heard him say that statement before, obviously people have not been listening to the artists and have probably been chatting, like many do. I think all acts did very well under the circumstances but it is unfair to say Dirty Wish had an advantage, the other band used their own PA and nobody has commented on that! The question that should be asked is why were solo singers and duo's put in the same semi as a band anyway?? Should they not have been put against the other solo's in the previous semi-finals??? I believe thats all down to the organiser!!!!!”

“Hi Damiam i had to come on here and comment about thursday night . As a member of the audience i must say it sounded like you said that you where going to win. As for using your own equiptment that was not fair i'm sure the other acts would have loved to have used there own gear but where not givern the chance. The sound for al the other acts was terrible either squeeking or excuse the expression farting all night. There where stage light but the main lights where left on spoiling the whole night. I have been to all the other semi-finals and the sound and lights where spot on so can any one tell me what went wrong on thursday. If the HDm have anything about them they should re-run the night and give all a leval playing field with the same sound and light as the other three heats. I'm not saying your band would not win again but at least all the others would have had a fair crack at the whip. had devilfish sang with you when you first went on you would have not stood a chance of getting through he did you no favours at all sorry i wont be at the final could not stand another night like the last.”

“I am the singer with Dirty Wish and if sandra had been listening I actually said we would like to wish all the acts the best of luck but that would be a lie because we want to win, it is just a joking comment which I have used in competitions before to lighten the atmosphere. As far as the devilfish point, that was put on us that night, liz asked if he could play with us, we agreed as he has played with other bands that have been in the competition. The comment about the sound, not our fault we were told we had to use our own PA so we did. As far as Sammi Louise is concerned, I was talking to her on the night and she said she was suffering from tonsilitis which is a shame because she has got a great voice! And as far as us not being that good, you're entitled to your own opinion, obviously the judges thought different. When I said we were the best, I meant we were the best at doing Alright Now as it happens to be one of my favourite songs. You can ask any member of the band, we honestly didn't believe we stood any chance of going through with the talent that was there. We just went on and did what we do! Everyone in the audience was introduced to the judges and again; if you were listening, there was a vocal coach and a professional singer among them. I think they're pretty decent 'qualifications'! You obviously had your personal favourite like we all do, but somebody has to win and according to the HDM, it was La Musica, we were 2nd!”

“Sandra, the judges are from the local social services unit.
Their normal working jobs during the daytime are wearing white coats With lamps on their heads!”

“Where was Dave Norman on Thursay? The sound was terrible the only act that sounded any good was the group and they were not hat good. Why was the lights left on all night it spoilt the acts peformance. Any why did devilface get up and do a spot with the band and then they won. I have not been to all the heats but have managed to catch all the later stages and this was by far the worst. Why did the bands singer say that they where going to win as they where the best did he already know that he was through? why is there no video is it because the sound was that bad they carn't put it on. The young lad on the guitar had no chance at all he didn't even have a mike switched on to start with. And wher did sammi come on the night she was by far the best act there. What qualifactions did the judges have to be there can anyone help with my questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
