'I would hate for Prescott to become a lord'
DEMOCRACY campaigners have visited Hull in an attempt to stop John Prescott becoming a lord.
The Hull East MP, who is retiring from the House of Commons at the forthcoming election, is rumoured to be in line for a peerage.

The Sunday Times reported that Pauline Prescott loved the idea of becoming "Lady P" and had put pressure on her husband to accept such an offer.
Democracy group Power2010 – complete with "John Prescott" in a wig and gown – collected signatures of protest against the possible peerage in Queen Victoria Square, Hull city centre, on Saturday.
They then delivered their petition to Mr Prescott's constituency office in Holderness Road.
Regional organiser Mike Britland said accepting an automatic place in the House of Lords would go against everything the MP stood for.
He said: "We want to make sure Prescott sticks to his principles and doesn't take the easy option of a job for life.
"Prescott may well be a good MP, but it can't be right he should get an automatic place in Parliament without having to ask voters for their support.
"If he wants to stay in Parliament, let him stand for election along with the other candidates."
Tom Foster, of North Bransholme, signed the petition.
The 40-year-old said: "I'm looking for change and I would hate for John Prescott to become a lord.
"I fully support what these guys are doing."
Mr Prescott is expected to top the list of a relatively small number of peers that Gordon Brown will create if he leaves office this spring.
But in August 2008, Mr Prescott said he would not accept a peerage. He said: "I don't want to be a member of the House of Lords. I will not accept it."
