Their aim will be to encourage people to eat well, exercise more and look after their mental health by offering support and giving information on local services.
The charity was awarded a contract to deliver the Healthwise Hull programme by the city's primary care trust.
Dr Wendy Richardson, the trust's director of public health, said: “We know people's choices are heavily influenced by the surroundings in which they live and peers who guide them in their decisions.
“By commissioning this service from the Goodwin Development Trust, we aim to ensure the right sort of information reaches people through every means possible.”
Kathryn Sowerby has led the development of the project for the charity.
She said: “We are looking for local people to volunteer their time to become community health champions.
“As well as basic health training there will also be opportunities for the champions to acquire an accredited qualification.”
The first training sessions for volunteers are expected to take place in October. Five new jobs will also be created.
The headquarters for the Goodwin Development's Trust's Hull Healthwise project will be the Hooper Building, near Queens Gardens, city centre.
