Eight years ago Molly-Ann Barnett was desperately ill after being diagnosed with leukaemia and was in need of a bone marrow transplant.
The Mail launched its Gift Of Life campaign in a bid to help, and 2,000 readers came forward and registered as donors.
But Molly-Ann's tissue type was so rare that it took a worldwide search to find a suitable donor.
Eventually, at the last minute, US donor Lori White, of Texas, was found to have the right match and Molly, who is now 14, went on to make a full recovery.
Now, Lori has again been asked to help someone.
Even more of a coincidence was that Lori was donating her rare bone marrow the day before Molly-Ann's birthday last month.
Amanda Barnett, Molly-Ann's mother, said: “It is staggering that she has done it a second time.
“Molly-Ann has such strange tissue typing it was really a one-in-a-million chance of having to give it again.
“And being so close to Molly's birthday, it just makes it more poignant.”
Molly-Ann said: “To me, she's the guardian angel who saved my life. I think it is amazing she is saving someone's life a second time.”
Speaking from the US after the donation Lori said: “I was rather surprised to get a call that I was yet another match as I am told it is rare to match for two separate people.
“I am praying that the outcome for this man is as great as it was for Molly-Ann.”
