More history to be unearthed?
AUTHOR and historian Barbara English hoped the discovery would turn out to be the Archbishop's Hall.
Records show the hall or palace, owned by the Archbishop of York, was somewhere in what is now Saturday Market.
The Archbishop left the hall in 1282 and moved to Hall Garth south of the Minster.
For more than 200 years after that the former Archbishop's Hall served as the guildhall.

Its discovery would be a major find in Beverley. It is thought the hall would look similar to the Merchant Adventurers' Hall in the centre of York.
Archaeologists are maintaining a watching brief as the Saturday Market works continue.
If other discoveries are made it has been suggested anything significant that is discovered could be marked with a plaque.
