Another lorry sheds load on east Hull road
Commuter traffic heading onto Hedon Road from Southcoates Lane was disrupted after a lorry shed its load this evening.
Police were forced to shut the east Hull route temporarily to deal with the accident.
The crash happened at the junction, just after 6pm.
The driver of a dark blue Vauxhall Astra was waiting to turn left onto Hedon Road at the roundabout with Southcoates Lane when the bucket of a digger, being carried by the lorry, flew off.
It crashed into the side of the Astra.
No one was hurt but the accident is yet another involving a lorry on the busy route in a matter of weeks.
See tomorrow's Mail for a full report on the accident in words and pictures.

“Wagons rarely drive 'with no intention of giving way' - they try to drive smoothly - if they can adjust their speed to get straight out of a junction, then that makes for good driving. How many cars do you see getting impatient with 40 tons of truck trying to get moving from a standing start? Yes, there are some bad apples but these are PROFESSIONAL drivers that have had more training than you can imagine. I understood that the roundabouts are tight in order to slow traffic down on the main road to enable vehicles from side entrances to get onto the roundabouts. This, ironically, is a safety measure!”

“There does seem to be a recurring theme here. The Hedon Road dual carriageway has a 40mph limit, but the roundabouts are too tight for lorries doing 40mph, hence the number of overturned ones and shedded loads. Coupled with the fact that many lorries are travelling well in excess of 40mph, and as admitted by a lorry driver on here last week have no intention of Giving Way, then there will be more such incidents. As I've said before flyovers should have been buillt over all these roundabouts for through traffic.”

“It's about time the Police started speed checking some of these lorries on Hedon Road. I use the road on a daily basis, and I travel at 40mph on cruise control, and no lorry has *ever* stayed behind me. A lorry speeding is far more dangerous than any car, due to its mass.”
